Fizzled Resolutions
By May, most of us have completely lost sight of our new year resolutions, placing them in the “too hard” basket, from where they may re-surface next year to face the same outcome. New Year resolutions bring hope of change – that long overdue holiday, music lessons, writing a book, losing weight, giving up smoking, exercising regularly, entering a triathlon, connecting with a long-lost friend or falling in love!
Take a moment to recall what led you to make that resolution? Those listed above may seem familiar, even trivial, but the achievement of each one of these goals is potentially life changing. Great news - it is not too late to re-activate your resolution and make it happen NOW. If it’s a simple action such as picking up the phone, then you already know what to do. If it’s a bigger goal, here are some tips:-
- Stop procrastinating. NOW is the time to take action.
- Make sure you have your goal clear in your mind. Write down your goal and place it somewhere prominent.
- Write an action plan of what YOU need to do to achieve your goal. If your goal is a big one, break it down into manageable tasks so that it isn’t overwhelming.
- Set a date for achieving each task and stick to it. Brainstorm a list of anything that could sabotage your efforts and devise tactics to keep on track.
- Treat your goal as a life decision – there’s no going back now!
- Before going to sleep each night, play a movie in your mind of your goal (as though it has been achieved) to activate your subconscious. When you wake, repeat the movie and do this daily until your goal is achieved.
- Share your goal with those who will support you along the way.
- Engage a life coach to inspire and empower you, whilst holding you fully accountable to achieve your desired outcome.
- Celebrate your success in a way that is meaningful to you.

| Dear Missy P
What is the best way to apply my make up when I’m in for a big night on the town, so that it will last?
Thanks,
Petra Kullay : Hawthorn, VIC
Hi Petra,
Your question is one of the most asked! So here are a couple of tips which I hope will help your make up last on that big night out.
1. Always make sure you use a Primer cream to your entire face before commencing your makeup, including on your eyelids.
2. Use a white eyeliner pencil that is “waxed” based and apply to the whole mobile lid. This will give a strong, intense and more importantly lasting eyeshadow look right through your night without creasing!
3. Use a loose translucent powder all over the face as one of your last steps just before applying your lipstick. Remember to LIGHTLY brush your face do not press it with a puff.
4. Finally, my favourite part... use a make up fixing spray! It is like what hairspray is for hair. Once you have completed your makeup look, spray your entire face with this make up spray about 8-12 inches away and it will set it, hold it and keep it for your entire big night out!
An emphasis on lips and nails is the look for this season. Strong, definite tones of stealing red, plum, copper and orange. A game of colour to be mixed during the day or the evening. Warm tones like orange, an intense red or copper are the players of make up for this autumn/winter. A mouth that is shining from an intense lipstick colour has a great tendency to attract. It is like this for nail polish on the nails, a colour of the same tone or even a little darker.

Bobbing Styles
Dear Linda,
What is the best way to maintain colour between visits to my hair stylists? Also, what are the latest looks for the coming season?
Thanks,
Shimira Roncoft : Glebe, NSW
Hi Shimira,
The best way to maintain your colour at home is to use colour care shampoo and conditioner recommended by your hairdresser. It locks in the colour giving you a longer lasting colour. If you have a fashion colour, such as reds, ask your hairdresser about a colour shampoo, such as DeLorezo nova fusion. It’s a colour shampoo which will add colour back into your hair bringing it back to life.
Bobs have been extremely popular over the last six months, but coming into autumn hair is getting longer and colours are getting warmer. Reds will be quiet popular over the next few months. Linda
